Activities

Dunn's River Falls, Ocho Rios: Dunn's River Falls is one of Jamaica's national treasures. Globally, it is as well known as reggae and equally stimulating. There are few places where the Arawak name "Xayamaca" - land of rivers and springs - is more apt. The Spaniards called the area "Las Chorreras", the waterfalls or springs and it is truly one of the most beautiful spots on the island.

Chukka Caribbean Adventures, Negril, Montego Bay, Falmouth and Ocho Rios: Flying through trees, going swimming with a horse, getting covered in mud are just a few things adventure lovers will enjoy when they book a tour with Chukka Caribbean Adventures.

Rose Hall Great House, Montego Bay: The Rose Hall Great House was built in 1770 by John Palmer and his wife, it eventually became the residence of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. In 1820, Palmer married Annie, a beautiful but feisty English girl. Little did John know that his young wife possessed "black magic" powers that would eventually lead to his demise. During her reign as mistress of the plantation, Annie did away with two more husbands and countless lovers. "The White Witch of Rose Hall" has fascinated generations, and even today, there are those who claim to see Annie passing through the Great House.

Ricks Cafe, Negril: RICK’S CAFE was the first public bar and restaurant of its type on the West End Cliffs, offering an alternative to Negril's majestic seven mile beach. From the beginning, Rick's Cafe boasted an unrivaled view of the sunset from its naturally formed cliffs. Over the years, visitors and locals alike have designated Rick's Cafe as Negril's premier gathering spot and our sunsets have become a Jamaican tradition.

Dolphin Cove, Negril and Ocho Rios: This magnificent property has a natural cove which is surrounded by 5 acres of lush tropical rain forest. Visitors have the opportunity to interact and "Swim With" dolphins, enjoying the thrill and love of these amazing lovable animals. Visitors can also swim with, hold, feed and learn about the evolutionary secrets of the Caribbean sharks. Visitors can capture their dream of being a dolphin trainer by taking the challenge of being “Sea Keeper” for the day.

Green Grotto Cave, Discovery Bay: The central feature of this natural attraction is the large labyrinthine limestone cave with its numerous rock formations, its stalactites, stalagmites and abundance of overhead ceiling pockets.Green Grotto is 1,525 metres long and 12 metres deep and is characterised by numerous chambers and light holes and a subterranean lake - the Grotto Lake - occupies its bowels.

Doctors Cave Beach, Montego Bay: For a truly unforgettable Jamaica vacation, visit the intimate Doctors Cave Beach Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica. An enchanting little resort hotel in a storybook setting. Where smiles and laughter fill the air and warm memories fill the soul.

Rafting on the Martha Brae, Falmouth: Rafting on the Martha Brae, the island’s #1 rafting attraction is located approximately three miles inland from the town of Falmouth, birthplace of one of Jamaica’s former Prime Minister, Hugh Shearer. The attraction is a mere twenty miles from Montego Bay and forty miles from Ocho Rios.

Activities

ActivitiesWhile this Jamaican spring break favorite is great for party animals, it can also be surprisingly low key – if you want. Montego Bay has excellent duty-free shopping, vibrant nightlife, and calm waters. Browse the local handicrafts at the open-air Harbour Street market, or the "hip strip" shops of Gloucester Avenue. The underwater crevices of Widowmaker’s Cave offer an intricate diving experience. Float serenely down the Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft and let your troubles melt away under the sun.

Transportation

TransportationMost arrivals in Jamaica are at Donald Sangster International Airport just east of the center of Montego Bay. Use only special taxis or vans operated by JUTA, the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association, or taxis operated by its government-sanctioned counterpart, JCAL Tours (Jamaica Co-operative Automobile & Limousine Tours). Do not get into a "pirate taxi," even if the driver promises to cut the going rate in half; cheating tourists is disturbingly common. JUTA tariffs are controlled, and you'll recognize its vehicles by the union emblems and red license plates. A list of official tariffs is posted at the airport -- but it's still important to agree on the price before setting out, to avoid potential disagreements later.

Food & Drink

Food & DrinkMontego Bay has some of the finest and most expensive dining on the island. But if you're watching your wallet and have an adventurous streak, try the terrific street food. The densest concentration of street food in Montego Bay is available at the junction of Gloucester Avenue and Kent Road. The Hip Strip is lined with bars, food stands, and shops catering to the beach trade. At any of these stands, you might try authentic jerk pork or seasoned spareribs, grilled over charcoal fires and sold with extra-hot sauce. To complete the experience, order a Red Stripe beer to go with it. Cooked shrimp are also sold on the streets of downtown Mo Bay, especially along St. James Street. They don't look it, but they're very spicy, so be warned.
