It hosts many concerts and events plus serves as a platform for the cultural arts in the area. Bryant-Denny Stadium is home to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team and is one of the finest in the nation. Denny Chimes, built in 1929, is a prominent landmark on the campus of the University of Alabama. The chimes ring every quarter hour and also play late afternoon concerts. The sidewalk surrounding the tower includes the “Football Walk of Fame.” The Alabama Museum of Natural History features exhibits from the Age of Dinosaurs and the Ice and Coal Ages. The Bryant Museum exhibits Alabama Crimson Tide football memorabilia dating back to 1892. Mercedes-Benz Museum & Visitors Center is one of Alabama’s top tourist attractions. Kentuck Museum exhibits some of the region’s finest crafts and artworks provided by southern artisans and craftsmen.Transportation
Tuscaloosa County is 50 miles from Birmingham; only 90 miles from Montgomery (the state capital); less than five hours from Atlanta, Jackson, Nashville, Mobile, the Florida panhandle and New Orleans; and a workday's drive to the northern and southern edges of the Southeast.Food & Drink
Tuscaloosa County enjoys an abundance of fresh items from our gardens, catfish ponds, neighboring chicken farms and Gulf Coast waters, less than a day’s drive away. Our local farmer’s markets boom during the growing seasons. And residents and visitors will tell you that some of the best barbecue they’ve ever eaten was served to them in a Tuscaloosa area restaurant. Our restaurant scene is varied and has expanded greatly in recent years—you can find a great burger or dine fancifully along the Black Warrior River or in the chic downtown areas, with lots of character and flavor. From formal dining rooms to sports pubs to down-home cooking, dining in Tuscaloosa County is a delicious experience.Read more
