A person can easily find themselves enjoying the splashes of the Jones Aquatic Center, playing racquetball at Emporia’s public recreation center, or wandering around in one of Emporia’s 18 parks. RAILROAD: The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad serves Lyon County and the City of Emporia. Dual main track lines support up to 80 intermodal trains daily. HIGHWAY: Highway bus service is available. Highways serving the Emporia area are the Kansas Turnpike I-335, Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 50, and Kansas 99. Ten motor freight carriers serve the Emporia area community. AIR SERVICE: The Emporia Municipal Airport (KEMP) is located four miles south of the city limits. The 5,000 foot runway accommodates most corporate aircraft. Commercial air passenger service is available at Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport 96 miles from Emporia. Five carriers and thirty daily flights are available. Kansas City International Airport is located 126 miles from Emporia via interstate highways.
