Additional information

The Dolphin Cottage is the closest unit to Kehena Beach – located on The Big Island of Hawaii. It has a beautiful ocean view from every room in the house!

If you are interested in yoga, it is situated in between two world famous yoga centers on ‘The Red Road’.

There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geo-thermically heated ponds, snorkeling, whale watching w/ dolphins that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska.

You can often see breaching whales out in the water from our lanai, just several yards off our beautiful coast – in the Kehena Beach area.

Many of my tenants have told me that they were able to swim w/ the dolphins as well – and you can too at the world famous ‘Kehena Black Sand Beach’!

This is the place for water lovers – you should see the spectacular view from the lanai. Literally, you will see coconut trees swaying w/ the trade winds against a blue pacific ocean backdrop.

We also have the best and safest snorkeling grounds just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools? You can easily navigate all of these places from our cabin at Kehena Beach, it has come to be a very popular spot ‘right in the center of all of these attractions’.

For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out ‘Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar’ if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.

This spacious and comfortable, high ceiling cottage has one bedroom w/ queen bed, full bath, living/dining area w/ food prep area (induction hotplate/convection table top oven/ new larger fridge/Microwave/blender/coffee w/ coffee maker – sinks in utility room and a Hawaiian rock BBQ w/ utensils outside, Wi-Fi internet, Direct TV, phone – situated in a tropical garden w/ ocean view). It can’t get much better than this. We have a laundry – utility room as well w/ sink. Soap is available.

It can sleep up to 4 w/ sofa bed or full sized Futon. This cabin is just 8 miles from Pohoiki Point (surfing area) and the famous Kapoho snorkeling waters are also near by and remain popular snorkeling, surfing and swimming areas. Compare our rates to those in Kapoho – you will love our place.

Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive where you can walk through Thurstons Lava Tube and look in to Kilauea Caldera. You will love Kehena Beach in the Puna District of Hawaii.

Activities

ActivitiesVolcano Village is home to independent spirits: farmers, creative minds, inquisitive scientists and those who seek inspiration in the peace of the rainforest and the power of nature's might.

Transportation

TransportationTravel to Kona International Airport (KOA) in Kona to the west, or Hilo International Airport (ITO) in Hilo to the east. Most visitors arrive in Kona. There is also the option of flying into Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu first and then taking a short, 45-50 minute flight to Hawaii Island.

Getting to Hawaii Island is easier than ever with daily direct flights into Kona International Airport. Major air carriers from Canada, the U.S. and Japan fly directly into Kona. Most of the direct flights are from the U.S. West Coast — mostly Los Angeles and San Francisco — plus Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Chicago, and internationally from Tokyo. Some seasonal carriers also make the trip with charters.

We recommend a rental car for flexibility and ease, and we strongly suggest booking before you arrive. All the major rental companies are found on Hawaii Island. There are also guided tours of every type from bus tours and taxis to shuttle services and private limos. Rental car agencies are located at the Kona and Hilo International Airports as well as some resorts. Rental car companies are located just a short distance from both inter-island terminals. Taxis and other ground transportation are available curbside.

Food & Drink

Food & DrinkThere are six good places to eat in Volcano Village. All restaurants are locally owned, and you will (luckily) find no big chain restaurants here. Food is a bit more expensive here compared to other places on the Big Island, but the quality of the food is good and the locals friendly. Considering the alternative of a long drive to Hilo and the great scenery, we heartily recommend dining in Volcano.
