Additional information

If you are interested in Yoga, we are situated in between two world famous Yoga Centers located here on ‘The Red Road’.

Many people come to Hawaii to visit Volcano National Park – home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us.

There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geothermically heated ponds, snorkeling, whale watching w/ dolphins that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska.

You can often see them from our lanai off our beautiful coast – in the Kehena Beach area. Many of my tenants have told us that they were able to swim w/ the dolphins and you can too!

This is the place for water lovers – you should see the spectacular ocean view & sunrise over the south pacific from our lanai – where you may want to eat your breakfast!!

Also, snorkeling area is just down the road at the Tide pools? You can easily navigate all of these places from the cottage in Kehena Beach, it has come to be a very popular spot ‘right in the center of all of these attractions’.

For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out ‘Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar’ if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.

The Whale House is located across the street beautiful Kehena Beach on the Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii and just a short walk ( 2 minutes) to Kehena Black Sand Beach.

Pohoiki Point and the famous Kapoho snorkeling waters are also near by and remain popular snorkeling, surfing and swimming areas.

Compare our rates to those in Kapoho – you will love our place. Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive where you can walk through Thurstons Lava Tube and look in to Kilauea Caldera.

NOTE: We also have a special provision for weddings. Pastor Thomas Monago is our wedding officiant who will perform your wedding at the beach or local park.

This is also the perfect ‘honeymoon suite’ where you can actually sit on your lanai and see whales and dolphins off shore…along with the boats and cruise ships that cruise by.

Transportation

TransportationTravel to Kona International Airport (KOA) in Kona to the west, or Hilo International Airport (ITO) in Hilo to the east. Most visitors arrive in Kona. There is also the option of flying into Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu first and then taking a short, 45-50 minute flight to Hawaii Island.

Getting to Hawaii Island is easier than ever with daily direct flights into Kona International Airport. Major air carriers from Canada, the U.S. and Japan fly directly into Kona. Most of the direct flights are from the U.S. West Coast — mostly Los Angeles and San Francisco — plus Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Chicago, and internationally from Tokyo. Some seasonal carriers also make the trip with charters.

We recommend a rental car for flexibility and ease, and we strongly suggest booking before you arrive. All the major rental companies are found on Hawaii Island. There are also guided tours of every type from bus tours and taxis to shuttle services and private limos. Rental car agencies are located at the Kona and Hilo International Airports as well as some resorts. Rental car companies are located just a short distance from both inter-island terminals. Taxis and other ground transportation are available curbside.

Food & Drink

Food & DrinkThere are six good places to eat in Volcano Village. All restaurants are locally owned, and you will (luckily) find no big chain restaurants here. Food is a bit more expensive here compared to other places on the Big Island, but the quality of the food is good and the locals friendly. Considering the alternative of a long drive to Hilo and the great scenery, we heartily recommend dining in Volcano.
