Additional information

Located in Sheridan County Kansas Hoxie is easily accessible by taking the Hoxie-Grainfield exit go north and turn east on Hwy. 24.

We offer secluded, private lodging 1.3 miles off the highway.

Many of our past guests comment on how at peace they feel here, the quiet time to reflect, watch the birds and other wildlife, hearing the sounds of only cattle, birds, and the often hay scented breeze of rural America.

We have installed a horse shoe pit in the outdoor living space where young and old alike can challenge each other to an old fashioned game of 'shoes', sit on the porches and just get to reconnect with each other.

We do have Wi-Fi internet, satellite TV, and videos but you probably will find yourself drawn either outdoors, or upstairs to the game room with the pool table, game table, and lots of board games and puzzles for quality family time, or even playing a game of card or chess.

Many of our guests take scenic walks along the dirt road north of the cabin, hunt for fossils and arrow heads in the rock quarry, go have spiritual time at the beautiful white cross on the top of the hill, journal, photograph wildlife, birds, and flowers, and enjoy the quiet.

The cabin sleeps 10 easily, with air mattresses, pack and plays, high chair, folding tables and chairs available for larger groups.

Two baths on the main floor and 1/2 bath in the loft area.

The kitchen is fully equipped to allow preparation of meals for one, two, or dozens of hungry people. We have a double oven, large dutch oven, crock pots, griddle, grills, just about everything and even an extra fridge and freezer in the garage.

Seating will easily accompany 30+, with additional seating and tables outside.

Laundry is complimentary, and basic baking supplies, bake ware and condiments, including coffee and tea is provided.

Catering upon request at time of booking.

We have many service providers in the area for your couples massage, pedicure, salon pampering session in town, flower shop, antique shop, get your car detailed, have your dog groomed, visit the museum or water park in town.

Two lakes within a few miles, abundant wildlife. Sheridan County Kansas and Hoxie Kansas has prize winning deer.

Ice fish on the lake 5 miles away, come home, light the fireplace, grill some steaks, watch your favorite sports or program in comfort, or play a game of pool.

The cabin was the Cressler family home for over 30 years, and is decorated with rustic and antique decor, is kid friendly, and offers a full library for our guests reading enjoyment.

Three porches for viewing the beautiful Kansas sunrise and sunsets, having morning coffee, reading or relaxing.

The creek can be heard on a still day, along with the songs of the birds, mooing of cattle, howl of an occasional coyote, and chirp of the crickets and frogs in the pond. A storm shelter is provided on premise.

Activities

ActivitiesThe Prairie Museum of Art and History, 1905 S. Franklin St., serves as a cultural center. The museum is a private, nonprofit museum governed by the Thomas County Historical Society. The Society was founded in 1959 to preserve the history of Thomas County, Kansas. The museum occupies a 24-acre (97,000 m2) site just north of Interstate 70, between exits 53 and 54.[citation needed] The Cooper Barn located at the museum complex is known as the "Largest Barn in Kansas."

Thomas County Courthouse which was constructed in 1907 by local firms Holland, JC & Squires, Frank, Crosby, and L. & Son. It is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is at 300 N. Court in Colby.

Other city buildings joining the courthouse on the National Register of Historic Places include the Colby Community High School at 750 West 3rd St. (which is now used as an elementary/junior high school), and the art-deco sand-colored Colby City Hall, which was built in the 1920s by the architecture firm Suite & Blanchard. Throughout its 80-year history, the city-hall has served as a correctional facility, fire station, library and meeting hall.

Another feature of Colby is Villa High Lake. The city-made reservoir is situated on the South Side of Villa High Park, which was created in the 1960s by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. The park has playground equipment, picnic shelters, disc golf, and fishing.

Fike Park is located just north of City Hall at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Eighth Street. The park area was formerly known as Carp Lake. The park has gazebos, a volleyball area, horseshoe pitching pits, and tennis courts. In 1998 and 1999, over $100,000 was raised by civic groups and parents, with assistance from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the City of Colby, for new playground equipment. In 2000, the tennis courts in this area were replaced and are used by Colby Community College and Unified School District #315. Colby Swimming Pool was located just south of the park, but has since been converted into a parking lot.

Pioneer Memorial Library is at 375 W. 4th St. It was named for the Pioneers who built the community.

Colby Aquatic Park was opened in 2012 at 1610 S. Franklin, featuring a lazy river, lap pool, water slides and curly slides.
