January Is The Time For Traveling On A Budget

Traveling can be a lot of fun. You get to experience new places and events all while not having to deal with many of your day-to-day annoyances. But, between airfare, rental housing, meals, and (of course) souvenirs, traveling is not exactly the cheapest hobby.

Luckily, there are times when it is not quite as expensive. According to a recent article by FareCompare, we are about to enter one of those times. Because airlines offer a number of sales starting in January, we are about to start what travel writer Rick Seaney termed an ‘airfare dead zone’. According to the article, Seaney identified 5 different times during the year where airfare prices plummet and January is one of them. Starting from the end of the first week in January through most of February, it is possible to schedule some of the cheapest flights of the year. In some cases, airlines will slash flights as much as 60% because not as many people are choosing to fly just after the holiday season. However, it is important to note that there are some exceptions within these dead zones. For example, dates surrounding holidays and big events within dead zones (i.e. Valentines day in February) will have normal to high airfare prices.
